FoxTab – 3D effects in your web browser

Wrote on July 26th, 2009 under Software, Web

FoxTabLast week I’ve found FoxTab a Firefox extension that brings 3D effects into your web browser.

It allows you to switch through opened tabs with a combination of keys (like you usually do in your operating system to switch through opened programs).

I’ve been using for a couple of days now and it’s been working great. It is really useful when you have 20 tabs opened inside a window and you want so select a specific one. It also has a lot of options and customizable environments which is a plus.

Because a picture is worth more than a thousand words here is a link to FoxTab homepage, image gallery included, and a video on YouTube which illustrates it’s usage.

Assembla

Last week I was searching for a service similar to SourceForge.net but without the obligation of your project source code being open/closed.

The truth is that since Tank Legions development I’ve been addicted to SVN and although I can install SVN support on my laptop, I prefer to use it remotely. That way it will work as a backup system too.

With this in mind I found Assembla, to be honest I haven’t tried it yet but from what I’ve seen it has some nice features and it does what I was looking for.

Test your web design in different browsers

Wrote on July 16th, 2008 under Software, Web

How many times have you thought: “Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a tool where I could test my website layout, and see how it appears in different browsers..” ?

Well I’ve got news for you!

The tool you’ve been waiting for already exists, or at least something similar to what you (I) have expected.

It’s name is Browsershots and it’s main goal is to take screenshots of your website in different browsers running on different operating systems.

IEs4Linux

One of the worst problems a developer can have while developing a web application is to make it compatible to the maximum browsers possible.

If you are running Linux and don’t have Microsoft Windows installed, or you have it but you don’t want to switch to it just for testing your application in Internet Explorer.

Happily you can use IEs4Linux to test your application, currently supported versions are 5, 5.5, 6 and 7 (beta).

You may read the installation instructions here.

An alternative to this is, if you have Microsoft Windows installed, it’s partition mounted and wine installed you may run the Internet Explorer that you have installed there.
